Imagine a world where everyone knows where their food comes from.

We’re cultivating generations of students who are active participants in their local food system.

I learned to LOVE lettuce because of you guys!

This was the first time I tried beets and then I liked them so I asked my mom to make them at home!

Come look, I’m eating carrots AND an apple at lunch today!

Elementary School

Our innovative Salad Days™ and Fall Harvest Days™ programs get students into the garden and veggies into the cafeteria at six public schools in Gloucester.  Each year, 100% of Gloucester public school students from Pre-K through 5th grade plant and harvest fresh produce that is then served to them through our monthly Taste Tests.

Middle School

Our unique school-grown corn and wheat programs, as well as school garden soil health units, tap into science and social studies curricula while giving middle school students the chance to grow and pop their own corn and plant and harvest wheat that they thresh, winnow, mill and make bread with. 100% of Gloucester’s public school students from grade six through eighth grade participate in Backyard Growers school garden programming.

Backyard Growers offers school garden program consulting services for schools and districts across New England. To date, over 20,000 students outside of Gloucester have found a connection to growing their own healthy food through our school garden program models.
